Little Squash Blossom had heard that there would be a torch light parade at the the Foggy Bottoms Resort and Spa. It was noon already and there was no sign of any such activity. Reluctantly she returned to her family nest for her 2nd nap of the day and perhaps a snack.
Thespians
Luncheon guests at the Foggy Bottoms Resort and Spa were often treated to a tableau created by the local Amateur Thespian and Summer Playhouse Group. Staged here is that immortal classic: “The Kiss”. Luckily for Oswald his suspenders were caught on the drain pipe. After a few furtive attempts, Lorraine succeeded in dislodging them. A standing ovation by onlookers was their shared reward for such authentic artistic expression.
Newcomer
Earl
Earl stopped off at the Foggy Bottoms Resort and Spa Coffee Shop for a coffee and Danish. It had been an arduous morning searching for worms. His Mom had named him Early Bird but it came with such a high price in responsibility and duty that he shortened it to just plain Earl. It didn’t matter; it changed nothing, he still felt compelled to get up and out foraging before the crack of dawn.
Daisy
Shame
The DNA evidence was clear. The unnatural coupling of a European Starling and a Brown-headed Cowbird had produced a grotesque offspring. The Mom’s Father was fit to be tied. Renaldo hung his head; his command of English was poor but he understood every word of the diatribe. There seemed no solution but to notify the Foggy Bottoms Resort and Spa Office of Health and Avian Services and place the fledgling up for adoption.
Free Speech
Mullard had always taken the right of Free Speech for granted. That is, until he spoke out against providing free barley corn for migrating flocks along the Pacific Flyway. Immediately he was set upon by one of “those”. The attack was so sharp that he leapt a foot. The words spewed by the new comer were acrimonious; vitriol was everywhere. Mullard had always thought that “those kind” ate bugs and berries. Who knew?
